The Mechanical Engineering Technician may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

  • Duties

    • Serves as an Engineering Technician responsible for providing engineering and technical support in the district to develop and prepare of complete engineering specifications, contract documents for new construction, and maintenance work.
    • Prepares general requirements portions of specifications for new construction and maintenance work including determining what project-specific information must be included, such as local clauses, State clauses, and more.
    • Coordinates with planning, legal, construction, operations, and contracting organizations to obtain input as required for inclusion in specifications.
    • Review of the plans and specifications from technical engineering viewpoint for practicability, conformance with existing standards and policies
    • Makes necessary changes to plans and specifications where applicable and coordinates technical changes with project engineers and planning personnel.

    • Incumbent may be required to travel in TDY status up to 15%.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience for GS-10: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service: 1) Having prepared/packaged construction specifications for civil works projects using specification writing software working underneath senior civil engineering tech; AND 2) Review construction specifications and drawings for consistency keeping in line with policy and design standards; AND 3) Assist senior tech with training presentations and provide training with minimal supervision.

    Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service: 1) Having prepared/packaged construction specifications for civil works projects using specification writing software; AND 2) Review construction specifications and drawings for consistency keeping in line with policy and design standards; AND 3) Serve as an expert in the field of specifications writing with experience training district employees on specifications.
