As Planning Manager, you will oversee and grow the North Dakota planning team. The work includes a diverse array of planning and community development projects across the northern plains and intermountain west, focusing on the North Dakota area. You will advise private and public sector clients on-site planning and development entitlements. This position presents an excellent opportunity to engage with clients and the public, solve problems in rural development, lead and grow, and contribute to the sustainability of our region.
Knowledge of the Following is Preferred:
- Provides overall strategic direction for the planning service sector.
- Work as a contributing planner on long-range policy documents, such as comprehensive plans, hazard mitigation plans, and community economic development strategies.
- Conduct research and prepare reports on demographics, economic, housing, and other data necessary for community planning.
- Review, process, and coordinate development applications for subdivision and commercial developments.
- Represent projects in a public setting.
- Write grant applications, ordinances, staff reports, and other documents.
- Provide subject matter expertise in planning company projects.
- Performs work that involves unusual or complex features that require solutions beyond typical and conventional methods.
- Provide community planning expertise, including advising, making recommendations, and conducting analysis related to municipal projects.
- Perform related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning/Related Field and 2-3 years’ experience in community development role(s).
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning and research for planning projects.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain complex planning issues and ideas to a layperson.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, to all levels of the organization, with elected officials, the public, and the media.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft environment.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in urban planning with experience working on community development projects
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or ability to obtain
