Medical Billing Clerk is responsible for reviewing, researching, coding, and generating third party billing for a medical facility. Completes and verifies ICD-10 coding. Being a Medical Billing Clerk inputs and maintains all payment records in database or systems. Performs basic customer service for routine patient or other inquiries. Additionally, Medical Billing Clerk requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Billing Clerk works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Duties:
- Accurately post payments received from patients and insurance companies into the billing system
- Review and reconcile payment discrepancies, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Identify and resolve any issues related to payment posting, such as missing or incorrect information
- Maintain and update patient accounts with payment information
- Prepare and submit reports on payment activities to management as needed
- Answer phone calls and emails regarding billing concerns and patient accounts
- Submit insurance claims electronically and by mail, resolving any errors which occur
Requirements:
- Knowledge of medical coding systems, such as ICD-10
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
- Familiarity with medical records and billing processes
- Previous experience in payment posting preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Commitment to phone and email etiquette
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently
