Medical Director plans and directs all aspects of an organization's medical policies, standards, and programs. Responsible for strategic clinical relationships with physicians and interns. Being a Medical Director ensures all clinical programs are in compliance with all applicable regulations. Researches and studies current medical publications and data on new treatments and practices to ensure high quality clinical service offerings. Additionally, Medical Director advises non medical management on clinical and patient related matters and policies. Requires a MD degree. Typically reports to top management. The Medical Director manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. To be a Medical Director typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience.     • JOB SUMMARY
      • Physician – Medical Directors shall work with Administration and Dyad/Triad leaders to provide administrated services and overall leadership to the assigned service line’s physicians, and hold physicians accountable to St. Luke’s mission, vision, core values and proactive standards. Leads strategic operations within the group, acting as a business director for the group. Physician – Medical Director shall provide Administrative Services with supporting documentation upon request.
    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
      • Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
      • Experience: N/A
      • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current or pending license in Minnesota and/or WI to practice as Physician. Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registration for prescription writing in Minnesota and/or Wisconsin. Board eligible or Board certified in the appropriate specialty

    • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
      • Knowledge of current principles and techniques of physician practice. Ability to function as a team leader, primary provider and role model; to accept individual responsibility and accountability for decisions and outcome; to communicate effectively with patients, families, personnel and other Physicians and establish professional working relationships with the same. To recognize the legal limits of physician practice; to maintain professional competency through continuing education and independent study. Ability to support St. Luke’s goals and objectives.
      • READING - Advanced: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints.
      • WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
      • SPEAKING – Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
      • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Advanced: Ability to comprehend and apply advanced mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical situations.
      • REASONING ABILITY – Advanced Skills: Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
