Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures. Being a Medical Laboratory Technician operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Performs quality control and assurance procedures. Additionally, Medical Laboratory Technician records lab results in specified system. Follows all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards. Requires an associate degree in laboratory technology, science or equivalent. Requires valid certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from ASCP or AMT. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Technologist independently performs laboratory procedures. Accurately interprets, documents, and reports out test results (including critical values) to clinicians. Performs quality control testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and reference ranges for test methods. Communicates professionally with providers and other staff members and serves as a resource for questions. Continually under the risk of infections and toxic exposure. Minimum Education Required : Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology/CLS (or related degree/coursework) that qualifies for a ASCP board certification. Associate degree from an MLT program to qualify for ASCP board certification.
Minimum related Years of Experience Required : To fulfill General Supervisor functions: One year performing high complexity testing in this laboratory or as designated by laboratory director. (Must ensure compliance with CMS-CLIA/CAP defined standards as relevant to particular duties).
Credential/Licensure Required : Must be ASCP Certified or eligible. Must obtain certification within 1 year of hire.
Shift : Working as needed in Lab, no set schedule. There is a 10% differential for hours worked.
