Position Summary
The Medical Scribe is responsible for transcription of patient medical information and other assigned typing duties using transcribing and word-processing equipment. Coordinates, distributes, and files output. Functions in a multi-disciplinary environment, which requires the application of excellent customer services skills.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

Transcribes medical reports and correspondence from recorded dictation.

Transcribes taped dictation of records and letters and other material for physicians, physician extenders, and nurses in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy utilizing EHR or word-processing and dictation equipment.

Ensures correct spelling of medical terms and other words; ensures correct punctuation and grammar. Makes necessary corrections without changing the test meaning.

Distributes completed documents in designated folders to dictating person within timeframe designated. Makes corrections as necessary.

Fax reports to outside physicians who have referred patients to the clinic or internal physicians that have referred to them.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Knowledge of medical terminology.

Knowledge of word-processing software and or electronic health record system.

Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices including legal responsibilities related to confidentiality.

Skill in written and oral communication through effective interactions with physicians and other staff.

Skill in customer service through professional and pleasant interactions with public and staff.

Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.

Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for extensive periods of time.

Ability to type 80 wpm from a tape using transcription equipment including earphones and foot controls.

Ability to use designated reference materials.

Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
Education / Training / Requirements

High School Diploma/GED.
-
Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA, or RMA).

Current CPR or BLS certificate.

Two years of medical transcription experience in medical environment.

Certificate of completion in a medical terminology class.
Physical Demands

Ability to enter data into a computer via a keyboard.

Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *
