DEFINITION OF POSITION

The Medical Social Worker is a Masters prepared individual who is responsible for facilitating social work services to patients and their families, who utilize both inpatient and outpatient medical services, in conjunction with interdisciplinary health care team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional
-
Master of Social Work degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education preferred.

Two to three years of post-masters experience in a health care setting such as a hospital, mental health setting, extended care facility, or home care agency is desirable.

Knowledge of applicable legal responsibilities/restrictions, current trends, and end of life issues in social work pertinent to the home health/hospice practice setting.

Knowledge of acute, chronic and terminal illnesses, mental and physical disabilities, and the normal developmental process and the impact on family systems.

Evidence of participation in ongoing continuing education programs.

Knowledge of and adherence to the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.

Must be willing to travel, maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and dependable transportation.
