    This announcement will be used to fill multiple full-time permanent and non-permanent Health Services Consultant 1 (HSC1) positions. The non-permanent positions are anticipated to last 12 months from date of hire. The project position is currently funded through June 30, 2025.

    Join us as a Credentialing Specialist (HSC1), where you’ll play a vital role in promoting and assisting with health licensing, a cornerstone program closely aligned with our mission. In this entry-level professional position, you'll be responsible for conducting credentialing activities essential to evaluating applicants' qualifications as healthcare practitioners. By ensuring compliance and proficiency, you'll directly contribute to improving patient safety and enhancing access to healthcare services throughout Washington State.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
    :
    • As part of a high-performance team, performing health professions credentialing functions to promote and assist with the evaluation of compliance with public health programs and licensing standards.
      • Verifying and obtaining information about applicants/applications by searching on-line databases and other resources, and by communicating with representatives of DOH programs, state and local government agencies, educational and credentialing/licensing institutions, and other outside organizations.
      • Initiating or explaining actions necessary for applications to achieve eligibility/compliance.
    • Providing written and verbal correspondence and outreach to internal and external customers. Providing application status updates to applicants.
      • Explaining complex laws and regulations to inquiring providers, interested parties and other government entities.
      • Providing consultation and education to health care professionals, facilities, customers, interested parties and/or other external bodies, including out of state and in-state verification of employment.
      • Informing applicants of missing information, application errors, and other barriers to obtaining credentials.

    Essential Requirements & Qualifications

    Note: Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.


    • Option 1
      : One or more years of experience in credentialing or licensing AND two (2) or more years of experience resolving customer inquiries, problems, or complaints in a high production environment.
    • Option 2: An associate degree or higher AND two (2) or more years of experience resolving customer inquiries, problems, or complaints in a high production environment.

    AND
    for BOTH of the above options:
    Six (6) or more months of experience and ability to use computer software as follows:
    • Word processing software, such as Microsoft Word, to create, format, edit, preview, print, and save documents. Use standard functions to select, edit, copy, paste, format, and spell check text.
    • Electronic communications and calendar programs, such as Outlook, to compose, send, and respond to electronic mail, and coordinate schedules and schedule meetings.
    • Electronic database system to update and/or maintain records.
    • Accessing and searching the internet to find and download information.

    Desired Skills & Preferred Experience
    • An associate degree or higher; OR two (2) or more years of successful completion of college-level coursework (quarter / semester equivalency).
    • One (1) or more years of analytical experience reviewing documents and taking appropriate action based on an analysis of the information.
    • Two (2) or more years of credentialing or licensing experience.
    • Two (2) or more years of demonstrated knowledge and understanding of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within particular field of DOH credentialing.

    Work Location & Flexibility
    The duty station for this position is in Tumwater, WA. Telework (mobile work) is currently expected. When approved, the incumbent is expected to report to the duty station for work activities. Partial telecommuting may be an option subject to supervisory approval. We anticipate the incumbent will work at the Tumwater office one day per month.
