Medical Technologist - Microbiology jobs in Galveston, TX
Medical Technologist - Microbiology performs a variety of microbiological procedures in order to cultivate, isolate and identify microorganisms in skin scrapings, exudates, body fluids and surgical specimens. Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures, including virological, mycological, bacteriological, and parasitological assays for use in diagnosing and treating disease. Being a Medical Technologist - Microbiology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in microbiological analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Microbiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Microbiology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. JOB DESCRIPTION:
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct, report and present research in his/her field of study under the supervision of a faculty mentor. This is a training position and is not expected to be a permanent position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Plan and perform experiments independently
- Prepare lab reports and manuscripts
- Performs a variety of immunology and virology assays and procedures including cell culture, ELISA, western blot, PCR, plaque assay, and flow cytometry
- Assists with the conduct of studies with animals
- Interacts and perform team studies with other researchers, including graduate students and research staff
- Capable of presenting data at scientific meetings
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
• Ability to plan and perform experiments independently
• Ability to observe and record experiments/research and report accurately
• Writing skills for protocols, reports, journal manuscripts and funding applications
• Mentoring and teaching skills for interaction with graduate students
• Presentation skillsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D., M.D. or Doctoral equivalent in Virology or Immunology or related fields.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior training/experience with animal and/or immunological studies.
