Sales Associate Job Description
Are you enthusiastic, friendly and dedicated? Reliable and have a proven track record of job longevity? Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum & Candy Emporium wants you for our team!
Our sales associates will be responsible for all aspects of our busy retail operation, including offering product tastings, proactively waiting on customers, using a point of sale system, bagging tons (literally) of candy, stocking shelves, packaging wholesale fudge orders, cleaning, building retail displays and much more – all with a smile.
We value honesty, loyalty and dependability. Our employees have a great work ethic, are able to multitask and prioritize and need to be able to play well with others. They also are reliable and work when scheduled. We are looking for people who do not hop from job to job and have been at their current position for at least a year or two.
Must be able to stand on your feet between 4-8 hours at a time, lift 35 pounds, work at least one day most weekends, and have flexible shift availability. Shift start and end times are non-negotiable. Working at least some holidays and special event weekends is required and non-negotiable.
While retail experience is preferred, we'll train anyone with a great attitude and affinity toward customer service.
About Us:
The Gettysburg area’s sweetest family tradition since 1975, we are a third-generation family owned and operated business. Isaac and Nicole Bucher became the owners in 2014.
Over the years, we’ve been successful not just because of sheer grit and determination, but because of the people we surround ourselves with. We are proud of the many long-term employees we have, and are thankful you are considering joining our ranks. We have a rich history and will build our future upon these tenets:
We change with the times. Today’s Mister Ed’s looks nothing like the Mister Ed’s of 1975 or even of 2010. “As long as you’re green you grow; once you think you’re ripe you start to rot.” That philosophy has served us well, and today we enjoy tremendous success because of it.
We listen to our customers. We listen when they tell us things outright, and also when they don’t. As a result, we’ve become even more family-friendly and affordable. We’ve increased employee training. And we’ve continued to enhance the visitor experience, particularly outdoors.
We respect our past, keeping the foundational elements the same, including commitments to excellent customer service, being a family friendly place and delivering a “wow” factor.
We strive for uniqueness, ensuring we always have our eyes open for the next fun thing to add to Mister Ed’s, whether it be an interesting trinket for sale, a new delicious candy or something free for families to enjoy. There’s always something new at Mister Ed’s.
We empower our employees to do the right thing by customers. Do they want a special flavor of fudge that is not currently on the counter? We offer to make it special for them. Do they want Peanut Day pricing on a day other than Peanut Day? They get it. We trust our customers. When they are not satisfied with something, we offer to replace the item or give them their money back, no questions asked. The best option is always kindness.
We demand freshness, whether for something you eat or not. We are meticulous in checking dates and ensure outdated items are moved to clearance. And gift items that have sat on shelves too long get moved there too, making room for new things.
We are committed to the local community. In 2012, we started a fudge fundraising program, and on average help local groups raise more than $20,000 each year. We also support local organizations to the tune of thousands of dollars, and sit on numerous boards. We prioritize organizations that educate children and support the arts.
We treat our employees well. We may not pay the most or have the most number of benefits, but we do work hard to create a culture of kindness, creativity and fun. We offer team building activities each quarter, a flexible schedule and, of course, sweet treats.
We keep learning. We attend workshops, conferences and classes to stay current on industry trends.
