Membership Director oversees an association or member organization's strategic goal-setting, implementation, and service operations to expand membership and deliver member satisfaction. Develops programs and initiatives to engage current members and recruit new ones. Being a Membership Director establishes service operational standards and policies to deliver efficient services to members. Implements web or social media processes to promote the organization and distribute membership information to prospective members. Additionally, Membership Director uses data-driven analysis, tools, and reports to measure member satisfaction and retention and to optimize services. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Membership Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Membership Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. CENTERS' management approach is customized for each client yet retains our uniform quality. Our firm unites site staff with a centralized administrative team, each contributing to the firm's goals and client needs. The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, trail-blazing, and ambitious for both CENTERS and our clients. Today, CENTERS provides management services for 14 clients.

    Responsibilities

    The Coordinator - Membership serves as the liaison between the recreation center and prospective and current members. They will process membership paperwork, actively recruit and retain members, coordinate communication and sponsorships, and collaborate with on-campus partners.

     

    This position will work on-site at our UAB location in the heart of this urban campus. University Recreation (URec) provides fitness, wellness, and recreational opportunities for the UAB community and beyond. The Campus Recreation Center gives UAB Students and URec members the opportunity to access a large aquatic center, fitness center, studio space, indoor 36-foot-high climbing wall, four gym courts, multipurpose gym, four racquetball courts, squash court, and indoor track.

     

    Core Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership and management of the merchandise store and member services desk
    • Lead adoption and utilization of member management and point of sale software; Process and audit member services paperwork and billing
    • Develop and execute a new member recruitment marketing plan and member retention program
    • Resolve member issues, chargebacks, and inquiries
    • Responsible for the preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets as it relates to areas of responsibility
    • Prepares and delivers required and requested reports and data to the client and CENTERS central office
    • Responsible for ensuring areas of responsibility stay in line with current trends

    Staff Supervision

    • Hire, train, schedule and evaluate part-time staff
    • Responsible for approving timecards and preparing necessary documents/reports in preparation for payroll

    Site Specific

    • Assist with leadership of a comprehensive employee orientation and in-service training program
    • Assist with the coordination of employee recognition programs
    • Complete daily deposits
    • Oversee locker renewals and clean-out process

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, advertising (or similar) required or 4 or more years of work experience
    • At least 2 years of progressive experience
    • Demonstrated experience within member management software

    • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/FA certification (or willing to obtain)

    • Sitting at desk or table for at least 50% of the work day
    • Working in an events environment must be able to traverse throughout buildings and campus
    • Regularly ascending/descending building levels and occasionally ladders or stools
    • Must be able to lift, move and set up items weighing as much as 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with event patrons, staff, stakeholders, etc.
