Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Membership Director at the Heinrich YMCA is responsible for the development, administration, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the member experience. This includes but is not limited to providing facility tours, membership sales, new member onboarding, connection to programs and services, and gauging satisfaction.
The Membership Director is responsible for the growth, retention, satisfaction, and deepening member involvement in the YMCA, specifically within the family membership category. Staff and volunteer recruitment, training, evaluation, and recognition will also be a focus of the Director to support the promotion and delivery of a quality experience to members and program participants.
Essential Functions:
1) Provides strategic thinking and vision around community and branch programming for families in the Heinrich service area; then develops, implements, and manages operating plans to support vision for quality service and membership growth.
2) Develops sustainable systems to support member and program participant onboarding and connection to Y programs and services.
3) Provides exemplary customer service to the members and program participants. Makes self-available to handle member questions or concerns in an effective, customer-friendly manner.
4) Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and with the YMCA through small communities and consistent friendly interactions. This is an intentional focus on creating and fostering community in small groups.
5) Develops and implements a vision of growth and retention for the Membership department and the branch in its entirety through the engagement of families, specifically millennials. Acts as the key communicator to branch staff about the vision of membership to ensure the message is spread and there is staff alignment with our vision for membership throughout the facility.
6) Participates in the branch budget planning process for Membership; then manages, implements, and monitors the approved budget. Takes appropriate action to correct variances and celebrates success with staff team.
7) Establish and maintain collaborations and partnerships with community organizations and municipalities. Seeks and pursues new relationships with area businesses/organizations/groups that align with the vision and goals of the Heinrich YMCA. Assures compliance with state and local regulations.
8) Organizes membership and family events at the Heinrich YMCA such as Healthy Kids Day, Halloween at the Y, Member Appreciation Day and partner events. Represents the Y at community events. Develops and executes promotional events that build awareness of the Y and lead to growth in membership.
9) Leads membership staff and volunteers effectively; recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams that are reflective of the community; onboards and develops them for success.
10) Performs Manager-On-Duty: a minimum of 8 hours’ week and makes self-available as a back-up for tours when busy. Maintains a 50% tour conversion percentage or higher and leads the team with Secret Shopper scores.
11) Adheres to YMCA safety standards at all times. Ensures safety is an overriding objective in all-programming efforts.
12) Performs all other duties as assigned.
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Trains, evaluates and supervises non-exempt membership staff in their respective duties; and the effectiveness of employee performance. Reports job related concerns with employees, volunteers, members or co-workers to supervisor.
2. Prepares monthly work schedules for areas of responsibility. Verifies personnel timesheets are accurate. Submits proper paperwork to the Payroll/Human Resource Department for changes in employee status.
3. Attends meetings as required. Holds monthly department meetings and trainings with front desk personnel. Communicates membership and program information to MOD’s, employees, volunteers, members and other departments in a timely manner.
4. Administers monthly member surveys, reports findings to Branch Executive. Prepares daily, weekly and monthly reports as requested by supervisor.
5. Exemplifies the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all interactions with staff, members, volunteers, and community partners.
6. Assess the inclusion of the YMCA mission and values in all program's areas. Ensure the Y is accessible and welcoming to all.
7. Contribute to the overall success of the branch by ensuring that all risk management procedures, as approved by the YMCA of Southern Nevada, are upheld.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
1) In consultation with the Executive Director, attend trainings, e-learnings, meetings, retreats, and conferences that are beneficial to personal and professional growth.
2) Serve as an active member of the Membership Cabinet.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 7 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints, resolving problems and reporting observations to the Branch Executive. Demonstrates enthusiasm in all areas of work. Maintains frequent positive communication with staff and works cooperatively with others. Ensures all programs are properly staffed, equipped and well informed. Ensures all assigned staff complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner, monitors their payroll and adheres to human resources responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Recreation, or Human Services (preferred), plus three years of leadership experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
