Millwright maintains industrial machinery and equipment using hoists, lift trucks, hand and power tools. Moves, assembles, installs or dismantles machinery. Being a Millwright interprets schematic diagrams, blueprints, and sketches. Analyzes plans for new equipment and maps out space to unpack and assemble new equipment. Additionally, Millwright troubleshoots problems and repairs or replaces worn or broken parts as necessary. May use equipment like forklifts, aerial lifters, and cranes to move heavy or unwieldy machinery. May perform welding, fabrication, or calibration as needed. Follows all work site safety requirements and regulations. Typically requires a high school diploma. May require OSHA Forklift Operator Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Millwright works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Millwright typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. This position services (overhaul, diagnose and repair) all types of District water control structure gates. Recondition and rebuild gear boxes and equipment parts. Inventive ability to draw lay out plans for fabrication and manufacture of parts where no specifications exist.
Inspect machinery and equipment to detect malfunctions or need for repair, replacement, adjustment, or lubrication. Oversee repair work and provide technical direction.
Ability to properly and safely use hand and power tools, square, rules, micrometers, and dial indicators. Ability to skillfully use metal bending machines. Ensure that all equipment is operating at peak performance.
Perform all aspects of welding, especially cast iron to steel, using gas torch, arc welding and flame cutting according to specifications, lay out plans, blueprints, drawings and/or sketches, using the appropriate equipment and techniques.

The West Palm Beach Field Station work hours are Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Offices are closed on Friday.
