Network Control Technician monitors performance and performs maintenance processes to ensure network systems operate at required levels of speed and reliability. Identifies and troubleshoots network issues and follows procedures to resolve problems. Being a Network Control Technician documents network issues and configuration changes as soon as they occur. May perform upgrades, preventative maintenance, or equipment installation. Additionally, Network Control Technician follows standard operating procedures to notify users of outages or changes to network status. May require an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Network Control Technician work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Description
Physically install network assets (i.e. switches, routers, firewalls, network tools & testing devices) in network closets and data center network cabinets including:
• Logically configure network switches and tools / testing devices.
• Complete patching of circuits into switches.
• Perform network closet clean-up, switch port optimization, and survey work as needed.
• Operate network test equipment (layer 1-3).
• Monitor and take appropriate action from network alerts generated from management tools.
Requirements
Three to five years of experience as a Network Technician.
Must have network engineering experience.
