Network Engineer develops and deploys plans and designs of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Conducts network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. Being a Network Engineer defines monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand. Troubleshoots network issues and develops appropriate solutions, resources, and deployment processes. Additionally, Network Engineer keeps informed of the latest technologies to enhance knowledge of networking hardware, software, and best practices. May be certified in vendor-specific products. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Network Engineer work is closely managed.     • JOB SUMMARY
      • The Senior Network Engineer performs a variety of advanced technical duties in providing information systems and technology support for the achievement of Good Shepherd’s mission and objectives by administering and maintaining operating stability and efficiency of the organization’s network systems and infrastructure.   Develops and maintains all network-related systems, security, and network configurations. Troubleshoots network performance issues and creates and maintains a disaster recovery plan. Recommends upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment.  Provides technical support and guidance to users. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity, expertise and latitude is expected.
    • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
      • DEMONSTRATES SUPERIOR TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
        • Provide technical leadership and technical monitoring and oversight of, Networking and Telecommunications equipment supporting business, clinical, and communications systems within the organization.
      • POSSESS STRONG ANALYTICAL/DESIGN AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
        • Creates and enforces network security protocols and procedures, using automated technical resources such as firewalls, intrusion detection, and other proactive network defense tools, providing protection of Good Shepherd’s computing assets as well as providing appropriate security and confidentiality to corporate and patient data. 
        • Collaborates with other departmental staff in creating and analyzing operational procedures, identifying technical infrastructure issues and recommending solutions. 
        • Helps evaluate requests for hardware and software
          • researches and recommends solutions to technology needs compatible with Good Shepherd’s technology architecture and infrastructure and resource constraints
          • drafts Requests for Proposals for hardware or software
          • solicits quotes and recommends products and creates and maintains documentation of Good Shepherd’s network and IP Telephony systems architecture, operating systems software, devices and communications specifications.
      • POSESS EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS
        • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to team members and provide input in overall design and structure of new applications as relates to technical infrastructure. 
        • Provide clear, concise communications to departmental colleagues, as well as the Good Shepherd user community to help ensure that satisfactory and productive service levels are maintained.
      • POSSESS ORGANIZATIONAL AND DEPARTMENTAL TEAM-BUILDING SKILLS
        • Have mature technical skills and the ability to clearly articulate and clarify design tradeoffs to stakeholders
        • Take initiative to help lead in the development and monitoring of technical project plans as relates to technical infrastructure.
      • POSSESS TIME MANAGEMENT AND MULTI-TASKING SKILLS
        • Perform time-management and multi-tasking activities, balancing daily project work while simultaneously supporting existing network and telecommunications infrastructure.
      • IDENTIFIES NETWORK REQUIREMENTS
        • By interviewing customers
          • analyzing departments, applications, programming, and operations involving networks, operating systems, servers, and equipment. 
      • COMMUNICATES NEEDS FOR NETWORK RECONFIGURATION & EXPANSION
        • Identifies the need for network infrastructure reconfiguration and/or expansion. 
        • Documents and communicates this information to supervisor. 
        • Aids in the design and configuration of the hardware for the expansion.
      • MAINTAINS NETWORK PERFORMANCE
        • By installing, maintaining, and repairing network equipment
          • performing network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common PC, LAN, and WAN network problems.
      • PREPARES AND SUPPORTS USERS TO ACCOMPLISH JOB RESULTS
        • By providing users with  network-related technical support, responding to the needs and questions of users, and responding to inquiries from users, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
      • SATISFIES PROJECTED ORGANIZATION REQUIREMENTS
        • By researching and recommending hardware, software, network, and communication solutions
          • coordinating purchase of equipment with vendors and materials management
          • working collaboratively with vendors to find solutions to match users’ needs.
      • MAINTAINS PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
        • By attending educational workshops
          • reviewing professional publications
          • establishing personal networks
          • benchmarking state of the art practices.
      • CONFIGURES\MAINTAINS NETWORK DEFENSE MECHANISMS
        • Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot systems used to defend Good Shepherd’s IT infrastructure from internal and external threats, while ensuring the security, confidentiality, and optimum functioning of Good Shepherd’s IT Assets and associated information systems.
