The Superintendent of Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools invites highly-qualified candidates to apply for the position of Principal of Oak Bluffs Elementary School.

Located on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, the Town of Oak Bluffs is one of New England’s most picturesque and tight-knit communities. The Oak Bluffs School is a K-8 school with current enrollment of 425 children. It is one of six schools in the Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools system that collectively serve a year-round island population of 23,000 residents. The school is fortunate to have an engaged and supportive parent community.

The principal will be responsible for the instructional program, professional and support staff evaluations, and budget development and implementation, as well as maintaining a visible presence with students, parents, and the broader community. The Oak Bluffs School seeks an effective team builder and dedicated community leader who is committed to children, passionate about the school’s mission, and champions the culture, as evidenced by the following:

• Demonstrates a deep care for children and their families. Actively supports all children and leads with inclusivity. Demonstrates a track record of leading schools with trust through shared leadership and collaboration. Demonstrates a commitment to cultivating and maintaining strong and effective relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community.  Demonstrates a commitment to developing and supporting teachers and staff through coaching and mentoring. Develops and maintains effective partnerships within the island schools and the Oak Bluffs community and across the island community as a whole.

The principal of the Oak Bluffs Elementary School will be the educational administrator and manager of the school and will supervise the operation and management of the school and school property, subject to the supervision and direction of the Superintendent. In accordance with district personnel policies, applicable statutes and budgetary parameters, and subject to the approval of the Superintendent, the Oak Bluffs School principal will be responsible for the employment decisions regarding all teachers, instructional or administrative aides, and other personnel assigned to the school. Through the application of administrative leadership, management and supervisory skills, the principal will organize and provide a learning environment conducive to the maximum educational growth of each learner.

The successful candidate should possess strong leadership and communication skills. Classroom experience is desirable, and at least three years of experience as a school administrator is preferred. A valid Massachusetts license as a Principal and a master’s degree in Education or related field are required. Residence on the island of Martha’s Vineyard is required.
