    What you will do:
    • Report on a variety of local sporting events, from high school games to community leagues
    • Write compelling and accurate sports stories, features, and game summaries
    • Input game results and statistics with precision and attention to detail
    • Collaborate with the sports team to brainstorm ideas and contribute to overall coverage
    • Utilize social media platforms to share your work and engage with readers
    • Meet deadlines consistently, even when working on multiple projects
    • Be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by sporting events
    • Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
    • Beat production deadlines
    What you will bring:
    • Prior sports journalism experience preferred
    • Excellent language skills plus understanding of news gathering and reporting in the digital age
    • Strong knowledge of the use of grammar, spelling, headlines and photographs, along with understanding of AP and local style, news judgment and awareness of the community
    • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
    • Strong reporting, writing, organizational and story structure skills
    • Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
    • A degree in journalism or communications is required
    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
    Along with your resume, please include 3 writing clips (sports writing preferred).
    The hourly wage is $14.42 - $16.83 ($30,000 - $35,000). Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
