In this role, you'll be covering local sporting events in Berks County and southeastern Pennsylvania, crafting engaging stories for both our print and online audiences. What you will do:- Report on a variety of local sporting events, from high school games to community leagues
- Write compelling and accurate sports stories, features, and game summaries
- Input game results and statistics with precision and attention to detail
- Collaborate with the sports team to brainstorm ideas and contribute to overall coverage
- Utilize social media platforms to share your work and engage with readers
- Meet deadlines consistently, even when working on multiple projects
- Be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by sporting events
- Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
- Beat production deadlines
What you will bring:- Prior sports journalism experience preferred
- Excellent language skills plus understanding of news gathering and reporting in the digital age
- Strong knowledge of the use of grammar, spelling, headlines and photographs, along with understanding of AP and local style, news judgment and awareness of the community
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong reporting, writing, organizational and story structure skills
- Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
- A degree in journalism or communications is required
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
Along with your resume, please include 3 writing clips (sports writing preferred).The hourly wage is $14.42 - $16.83 ($30,000 - $35,000).
