Nuclear Medicine Technologist jobs in Fort Wayne, IN

Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments. Creates and enhances diagnostic images using a variety of imaging equipment and tools. Being a Nuclear Medicine Technologist collects biologic specimens and prepares data for interpretation by physicians. Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical usage for regulatory compliance. Additionally, Nuclear Medicine Technologist may require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically requires certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     Serves as technologist in the Nuclear Medicine department. Must be able to perform diagnostic nuclear medicine scans using gamma cameras and advanced computer processing. Must be able to mix radiopharmaceutical kits and administer correct dosages to the patients. Must follow NRC radiation safety guidelines. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

    The technologist applies principles of radiation protection and the ALARA principle, exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures, recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures, establishes and maintains a good rapport and professional relationship with fellow employees, other departments and the Medical Staff.

    Licensure

    Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications

    • Current IN State Board of Health Certification
    • Certification as a NMTCB or ARRT registration.
    • BCLS within 30 days of hire.
    • SAMA Level 1 within 30 days of hire

    Experience: Will consider a new graduate.

    Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program.

    Other: Must have excellent verbal communication skills in dealing with patients, physicians and family members; also good written communication skills.

    Requires strong working knowledge of normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to age (including child, adolescent, aging adult) and diagnosis of patients served to support the provision of an individualized multidisciplinary plan of care.
