Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments. Creates and enhances diagnostic images using a variety of imaging equipment and tools. Being a Nuclear Medicine Technologist collects biologic specimens and prepares data for interpretation by physicians. Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical usage for regulatory compliance. Additionally, Nuclear Medicine Technologist may require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically requires certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Roles and Responsibilities:
To operate scintillation detectors and computers which produce images and measure concentrations of radionuclides in specific body areas and body products to obtain information for diagnosis.
To assist with the therapeutic administration of radionuclides.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited nuclear medicine technology program.
Registered by CNMT or ARRT.
Thorough knowledge and skill in performing nuclear medicine procedures.
Considerable ability to accept new responsibilities as new equipment and examinations. are introduced into the department.
Current BLS certification required.
