Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Room works in collaboration with a physician to assess the physical needs of patients admitted to the emergency room. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Room prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Requires a master's degree. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Room requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a physician. Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Room's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Provides primary and episodic care to patients ' independently and in collaboration with other medical professionals. Provide high-quality care services to patients of all ages, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions. Emphasize health promotion and/or disease prevention through patient education and coordination of care. Follows regulations and guidelines for writing prescriptions.
Responsibilities- Perform complete physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent, and non-urgent presentation.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including prescription medications and referrals to specialists when necessary.
- Selects, orders, and perform tests and procedures to augment physical findings.
- Define/document differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnoses included.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as deemed necessary and appropriate for plan of care, in collaboration with supervising physician as indicated.
- Interpret data and diagnostic results for appropriate course of action including but not limited to laboratory, radiology, EKG, etc. in collaboration with supervising physician as indicated.
- Performs duties in accordance with the customary rules of ethics and conduct of the applicable State Board of Medicine and other such regulating bodies.
- Educated patients and family members on health conditions, preventive care, and prescribed medications.
- Maintains quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential patient issues and situations.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records, in accordance with HIPAA regulations and best practices.
- Actively participate in community events and initiatives to promote health and wellness, and to build relationships with patients and community members.
