Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal works in collaboration with a physician to assess the physical needs of newborn patients. Provides care for newborns and infants in a neonatal setting. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a physician.     Hushabye Nursery is an Arizona nonprofit organization with a mission to ‘embrace substance exposed babies and their caregivers with compassionate, evidence-based care that changes the course of their entire lives.’ The organization was founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal nurse practitioner who witnessed firsthand the challenges of newborns exposed prenatally to opioids and those families trying to care for them. Hushabye Nursery’s innovative model offers a safe and inclusive space where mothers, family members and babies – from conception through childhood – can receive integrative care and therapeutic support that offers each child the best possible life outcomes. Programs will include prenatal and postpartum support groups, inpatient nursery services and outpatient therapies.


    POSITION OVERVIEW


    The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is a member of the health care team who provides comprehensive health care services to Hushabye Nursery patients and families. Works in a positive work environment, fostered by the supportive relationship with the multidisciplinary team. Neonatal care at Hushabye Nursery utilizes Neonatal Nurse Practitioners operating a team approach in managing clinical care. Flexible schedule (4-6-hour shifts/day) with some weekend hours required. Opportunity for teaching and research. 


    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following)

    • Engage in independent decision making about health care needs. 
    • Manage the care of patients with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. 
    • Coordinate the interdisciplinary health care team for a maximum of 12 patients and families daily. 
    • Diagnose, prescribe medications and interventions, order and interpret laboratory tests. 
    • Plan and coordinate patients' discharge, rehabilitation, home health care and follow-up.  
    • Actively engage with family to build healthy parenting practices. 
    • Ensure continuity of care by providing ‘warm handoffs’ to outpatient care team. 
    • Provide education to the staff, volunteers, and families of Hushabye Nursery. 
    • Collaborate with peers to create evidenced-based practices, policies, and procedures for Hushabye Nursery.  
    • May lead specific initiatives to build and sustain inpatient nursery and HOPPE program objectives. 

    Requirements


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

    • Practiced as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner for a minimum of 10 years. 
    • Current State of Arizona RN license. 
    • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.  
    • Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 
    • Level One Fingerprint Card.
    • Current prescribing privileges including a DEA license for controlled substance. 
    • Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges.   

    EDUCATION (Minimum Requirements)

    • A graduate of a formal Neonatal Nurse Practitioner training program. 
    • Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner by the State Board of Nursing.
