Nurse Practitioner - Oncology works in collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to manage care for patients in an oncology setting. Provides quality care in all settings for cancer patients, families and staff. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Oncology orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Oncology assesses patient condition and may provide treatment using specialized medical equipment. Requires a master's degree. Requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Responsibilities
Ordering and scheduling necessary studies, and professional consultations
Collecting and documenting data
Providing direct patient care services to include prescribing medications and other therapies as needed
Provides patient physical examinations, diagnosis, and course of treatment as allowable by certification and state Standards of Practice
Provides chronic care management and education to patients when needed
Provides services as a consultant for all health program operations involving, disease state management, adverse health trends, and safety concerns
Assists with arranging for appropriate diagnostic testing
Assists in treatment decisions with other members of the clinical team, including disease management and wellness coaches
Skills & Qualifications
Licensure from an accredited school
Current BLS or ALCS certification
Strong communication skills
Exceptional time management skills
Works efficiently and has a quick response time
Accurate and proper handling of all lab work
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting or standing
Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and 10-20 lbs. frequently
