Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatric works in collaboration with physicians to manage care for patients in a psychiatric setting. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatric prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Provides primary care to psychiatry and at-risk patients. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatric requires a master's degree. Requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatric's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. The Psychiatric Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) is certified and licensed by the State Board of Nursing in the state of New Jersey to provide psychiatric services under the direction of the collaborating physician. Functions in an expanded role as a professional nurse, performing acts of medical diagnosis and prescription of medical therapeutics or corrective measures, in collaboration with a physician. This individual must be able to demonstrate competency and completion of the criteria listed in this in description as well as criteria set forth in credentialing and privileging process as set forth in the Medical Staff Bylaws and Medical Staff Rules and Regulation. The CRNP must be available to work in all treatment settings, treat dually diagnosed patients and provide care for the population congruent to their certification.
In addition to the requirements as determined by the Medical Staff, the following supporting documentation is required:
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Experience: Experienced in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care, well-developed skills in integrating individual treatment approaches into treatment milieu and good working relationships with other attending physicians and staff.
Licensure: Active and unrestricted New Jersey license to practice as a psychiatric certified registered nurse practitioner.
Additional Requirements: Current competence in all areas for which clinical privileges are requested as described in the Medical Staff bylaws and Medical Staff Rules and Regulations as well as monitoring through the FPPE and OPPE process. Monthly contact with collaborating physician. Successful completion of General Hospital Orientation and Department / Job Orientation. Participate annually in Summit Oaks Hospital’s staff requirements, including Employee Health requirements related to Tuberculosis testing and HealthStream assignments. Staff members must attend all mandatory in-services and are encouraged to participate in activities that enhance their professional growth
