Nursing Director - Nursing Home oversees and manages the team responsible for providing nursing services within a nursing home. Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing all nursing services. Being a Nursing Director - Nursing Home ensures compliance with current local, state, and federal standards and regulations. Monitors the quality of resident care and services and makes recommendations and/or adjustments as needed. Additionally, Nursing Director - Nursing Home may consult with residents' family members. May require a bachelor's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Nursing Director - Nursing Home typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity.     Directors of Nursing must have the following:

    • Must possess either a current Illinois LPN/RN license in good standing
    • Minimal of 1 year Managerial/Supervisory Experience preferably in Long Term Care Setting
    • Ability to apply essential principles of supervision and managerial activity, basic human resources operations, strategic and program planning, development, and evaluation, and technology implementation


    As a Director of Nursing, you will:

    • Demonstrate understanding and utilize nursing policies and procedures in the administration of resident care.
    • Direct day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern SMHRF.
    • Ensure that all nursing personnel comply with the written policy and procedures established by the facility.
    • Ensure that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere.
    • Meet with assigned staff to plan the shifts, services, programs and activities.
    • Follow facility's guidelines for reporting all activity during scheduled shift.
    • Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program.
    • Assist in facility surveys (inspections) conducted by authorized government agencies.
    • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents consistent with facility policy.
    • Attend all required training programs.
    • Complete all required documentation pertaining to resident's admission, transfer and/or discharge.
    • Receive and accurately transcribe telephone orders from Physicians and record on the Physicians' Order Sheet.
    • Complete all required documentation pertaining to accidents, incidents, unusual occurrences and changes in resident's condition in a timely and accurate manner.
