POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing daily care to facility residents. The Registered Nurse functions as the primary liaison between residents and community staff. In addition to resident care, this individual is responsible for other clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. This person must convey a positive image of the facility and must have a genuine caring for, and interest in, working with elderly people. The Registered Nurse must, within the individual’s area of focus, ensure compliance with Bellaview Assisted Living's quality standards and with State and Federal regulations. This individual must be highly organized and possess outstanding interpersonal skills with a high level of energy and enthusiasm. The Registered Nurse works closely with the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director to ensure the needs of the residents are in the forefront and met. The Registered Nurse must be a firm decision-maker, taking into consideration the impact of that decision on the overall organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Registered Nurse reports to the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director. The Registered Nurse is responsible for carrying out the primary duties as outlined by the owner of Bellaview Assisted Living. These essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations in dealing with employees, residents, residents’ families, visitors, and coworkers in a professional and confidential manner.
- Be familiar with the Bellaview Senior Living policies and procedures as well as the Utah State Health Department regulatory requirements for assisted living facilities.
- Perform new resident assessment prior to admission and direct the creation of a new service plan upon moving into the facility within 7 days of admission.
- Perform resident reassessments every 6 months and upon significant change. The Registered Nurse must use a Utah State Health Department approved resident assessment.
- Evaluate significant changes of residents, communicate any changes to the Executive Director to be reviewed weekly. Significant changes will be considered when updating all Resident Service Plans.
- Update service plans, as needed, by getting input from staff, home health or hospice and the significant change log.
- Have a continuous and complete understanding of all residents’ conditions, and ailments. Provide instruction or recommendations for ongoing resident needs and care techniques to the Healthcare Staff and Executive Director so they can be implemented and shared with the staff and or home health and hospice providers.
- Review the home health and hospice service plans to ensure service plans are aligned and that we have a current understanding of the treatment being provided by outside vendors. RN will also assure that all 485’s are filed in resident charts in a timely manner.
- Review resident behavior or care adjustments in the communication log.
- Request updated service plans when changes occur. Sign off on all service plans or service plan updates to confirm they accurately reflect the current assessment.
- Meet with Healthcare Staff and Administrators monthly for a Quality Assurance Meeting and create the staff meeting agenda in order to coordinate resident care.
- Attend staff meetings and train staff on issues that have risen in the past month regarding recent Incident/Accident reports and Medication Error Reports.
- Designate in writing staff to administer medication and provide training to all Med Techs.
- Help administration and staff monitor the MAR’s (medication administration record), ensuring accuracy and elimination or errors.
- Be available for consultations with employees, residents, or resident family members via phone, email or text.
- Communicate accurate and pertinent information to facilitate effective and efficient resident care.
- Provide informative written and oral correspondence to the Management Company.
- Make informative decisions and educate staff on all major changes and/or changes to policy.
- Apply problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Work to establish a group culture to enable Bellaview Senior Living to function as a whole.
DUTIES
The community Registered Nurse is expected to perform position-related duties that include, but aren’t limited to:
Residents
- Abide by the Bellaview Senior Living Medication Policies and State of Utah Statues.
- Train staff on proper medication and wound treatment, making sure all employees are listed on medication delegation training forms. The training is to be done annually, at the time of hiring, or when deemed necessary.
- Sign off medication changes within 48 hours of the change, new and discontinued.
- Sign off on all incident reports within 72 hours.
- Review all narcotics logs, verify signature page, sign all narcotic sheets after counting, and catch and fix all errors by retraining staff.
- When notified via call or text from staff that medications have arrived, verify they are setup within 24 hours.
- Receive calls from staff or find medication errors and document them on Medication Error Report.
- Perform a medication retraining with individual staff after 2 medication errors or as deemed necessary.
- With permission of resident’s families, dispose of all expired and unneeded medications. Document in Medication Disposal Record.
Regulatory and Legal
- Administer the facility's policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance to policies relating to blood-borne pathogens, hazard communication, and infection control.
- Ensure compliance with respect to risk management; the dying and the aging process; fire safety; disaster preparedness; residents’ rights; grievance procedures; and medication administration.
- Assist during a state survey or other in-house inspection of records.
Other
- Assist the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director as needed.
- Develop professional skills and education through other higher educational and/or continuing education opportunities. Annual continuing education requirements shall be no less than eight hours annually or else as determined by state regulations. Such continuing education shall exclude CPR and First Aid certification.
- Complete full orientation upon hire.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Essential Qualifications
Education/Certification
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One year of management experience in the elderly care field.
- Has sufficient physical, emotional, and mental capacity to carry out the requirements of the position as verified by a statement from physician, nurse practitioner, or other health professional.
- No previous felony conviction, or conviction for fraud of the federal government.
- CPR certified and first aid certification.
- Criminal background check (BCI).
- TB test.
- Food Handlers Permit.
- Current RN License.
- 21 years of age.

POSITION ENVIRONMENT
This position requires the ability to manage a diverse group of individuals. Physical demands include moving light equipment and supplies, and operating office equipment. Lifting on a regular basis, up to twenty-five pounds, is required. Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to fifty pounds is also required. Requires hearing to normal range and corrected vision. Occasional stress related to multiple responsibilities is anticipated.
