  • SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

    The Director of Nursing will report to the Senior Director to provide strategic vision and operational oversight of all nursing services. The Director will ensure strict compliance and provision of safe and high-quality care that is representative of Citizen Advocates’ mission. The Director serves professionally as a liaison and servant leader for all nursing teams within Citizen Advocates’ while maintaining poise and composure in complex situations. The Director will demonstrate effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, communicating appropriately and effectively. The Director oversees all nursing activities, ensuring policies and procedures are in place to provide quality care. The Director drives the development and execution of short-and long-term strategic plans through continuous collaboration with senior leadership. The Director will have oversight of current and future nursing services that further the competitive position of the organization while ensuring strict compliance with OPWDD, OMH and OASAS policy and procedure.

    Essential Functions (Job Duties)

    • Responsible for comprehensive oversight of nursing personnel workflow and practice, by participating in review, analysis and appraisal of efficiency, productivity, and quality.
    • Drives quality improvement efforts through effective staff and provider involvement, project management, and communication. Implements timely changes and keeps staff and providers up to date with clear, concise, and professional communications.
    • Makes announced and unannounced visits to service areas as necessary.
    • Establishes and meets targeted goals and developmental growth plans for self and staff; monitors employee performance and conducts effective performance evaluation sessions.
    • Develops, implements, and documents policies, procedures, and protocols that ensure compliance with all internal policies and external regulations.
    • Assure service satisfaction by acting as a resource in identifying, investigating, and resolving administrative/operational and care problems or complaints related to nursing or other department if required, in partnership with operations team.
    • Provide guidance and support for supervisory, and field nursing staff.
    • Responds promptly and effectively to staff, client and provider concerns according to policy and procedure.
    • Provides counsel to direct report staff appropriately and in a timely manner concerning areas of deficiency as well as areas of excellence and quality improvement.
    • Works closely with the HR and Compliance department and adheres to all auditing schedules.
    • Acts as a thought leader, by maintaining knowledge base of current evidenced based clinical standards of care, practice and innovations.
    • Executes business plans by assigning accountability to appropriate and competent staff and/or providers, monitoring progress, making appropriate adjustments, and finding innovative solutions to obstacles or barriers.
    • Participates in Senior Leadership and inter-departmental meetings and serves as liaison to outside organizations.
    • Evaluates and proactively manages nurse staffing ratios and staffing schedules to ensures agency meets regulatory and safe patient requirements.
    • Assist with recruiting, hiring and development of new job standards as needed.
    • Continuously evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing services to ensure delivery meets current evidenced based standards of care, identify opportunities for improving services and outcomes and follows professional standards of care.
    • Maintains a New York State driver's license.
    • Participates in a wide variety of related projects and other duties in support of efficient department operations
    • Maintains an unencumbered New York State Registered Nurses License

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
    This is a full-time position.
    Workweek schedule: Will vary from week to week.
    Hours of work: Varies with flexibility.

    Hours and schedules may vary depending on Company need and workload. Employees will be given as much advance notice as possible when such changes occur.

    Trainings may require travel.

    Required Education and Experience
    1. Registered Nurse degree with a valid New York State RN license

    2. Continuing professional education required

    3. Minimum of 5 years' experience in specialized field preferred

    4. Bachelor's degree required, Masters preferred
