Nursing Supervisor supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel in patient care units. Participates in planning work of assigned units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments. Being a Nursing Supervisor ensures that patients' needs are met and evaluates unit nursing care and performance. Monitors patient recordkeeping activities for accuracy, completion and compliance with all regulations. Additionally, Nursing Supervisor requires a bachelor's degree of nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires certification as a registered nurse (RN). The Nursing Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Nursing Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. The Evening/Night Nursing Supervisor is a resource and operational expert who collaborates with and supports the department/organizational leadership in problem solving and utilization of resources for optimal patient care outcomes. The Evening/Night Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the delivery and organization of nursing care activities on the assigned tour of duty. The Evening/Night Nursing Supervisor duties include provision of managerial and clinical links between the nurse manager and department direction in their absence, and the administrator-on-call. In the absence of Department managers and Administration, the Evening/Night Nursing Supervisor will assist with problems in this area, seeking advice and counsel by telephone as needed from the appropriate department manager or administrator on call. The Evening/Night Nursing Supervisor reports directly to the System Director Nursing Resources. He/She participates in decision-making and promotes an environment in which the objectives of Nursing Resources and the hospital can be met. The Evening/Night Nursing Supervisor acts as a role model for promoting teamwork among the health care employees. - EDUCATION
- Graduate of a registered nursing program with 3 years current nursing experience.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- LICENSURE
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of West Virginia
- EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Minimum of two years clinical practice, and at least one year experience as a Nurse Manager/Director, Clinical Coordinator, or Charge Nurse.
- CERTIFICATION
- BCLS validation within 60 days of employment and maintained thereafter per AHA guidelines.
- ACLS and PALS validation within 1 year of hire and maintained thereafter per AHA guidelines.
- CPI validation within one year of employment and maintained per hospital policy.
- COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS
- Experience with computers required.
- Meditech experience preferred.
- JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Charge Nurse and/or Supervisory experience preferred.
