    Summary/Objective: Facilitates development and rehabilitation of patients with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy

     

    Core Patient Care Responsibilities:

     

    Perform patient treatments according to established therapy standards and departmental policies and procedures.

    1. Works with all age groups from pediatric to geriatric
    2. Meets the patient’s goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results and determining occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription
    3. Helps patient develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional, prevocational, vocational and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational and social activities.
    4. Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual’s physical capacity , intelligence level and interest
    5. Prepares patient for return to employment by consulting with employers, determining potential employee difficulties, retraining employees, helping employers understand necessary physical and job result accommodations
    6. Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting and evaluating patient’s progress
    7. Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers and other healthcare workers, contributing at patient care conferences
    8. Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment, recommending outpatient follow-up programs
    9. Documents patient care services by charting in E.H.R

    Participates as an active member of the Rehab Department.

    1. Attends department meetings.
    2. Assists in development of new programs.
    3. Assists in providing public education programs.
    4. Assists the office personnel with answering phones and making appointments as necessary.
    5. Works cooperatively with other department therapist(s)

     

    Promotes safe work habits.

    1. Practices Standard Precautions; i.e. good handwashing and use of gloves when in contact with bodily substances.
    2. Reports malfunctioning equipment.
    3. Utilizes correct body mechanics and assistive devices for all lifting, transfers and ambulation training.

     

    Maintain a positive work environment

    1. Communicates in an understanding and diplomatic way with family, peers and supervisors.
    2. Problem solves by pursuing proper chain of command.
    3. Evaluates suggestions and criticism objectively and understands measures to change behavior or utilize resources when appropriate.

     

    General responsibilities

    1. Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential
    2. Create and revise Occupational Therapy policies and procedures
    3. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating/being a member of professional societies
    4. Complies with federal, state and local legal certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, advising management on needed actions

    Required:

    • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
    • Licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Idaho
