Online Pharmacist compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs per physician's instructions for online or mail order subscription orders. Manages a high volume of prescriptions. Being an Online Pharmacist does not typically interact with customers. May supervise technicians and oversee operational activities including data entry, order fulfillment, and shipping. Additionally, Online Pharmacist requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager or supervisor. Requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh).   • Position Summary:
    The Pharmacist (Meds-to-Beds) compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving written orders from physicians. Reviews and interprets prescriptions and drug profiles to ensure appropriate drug therapy has been prescribed and ensures that drug interactions and pharmacokinetics are considered. Contacts and confers with physicians and other practitioners to optimize drug therapy. Maintains inventory and records on narcotics and other forms of drugs. Promotes and demonstrates proper use of cost-effective drug therapy. Competency maintained on all computer-based systems. Triage and routing of prescriptions through appropriate channels to maximize patient-centered care. Participates in the routine supervision and training of technical staff related to daily operations of drug distribution.

    Duties/Responsibilities:
    •    Demonstrates ability to adequately design, recommend, monitor and evaluate patient specific pharmacotherapeutic regimens when consulted.
    •    Provides accurate information on medication use, possible side effects and their management, drug interactions or other needed facts to patients and their caregivers.
    •    Provides accurate, timely drug information to other healthcare providers.
    •    Demonstrates proficiency with the process for assessing, managing, preventing, and reporting medication errors.
    •    Demonstrates proficiency with the process for assessing, managing, preventing, and reporting adverse reactions to medications.
    •    Demonstrates proficiency with the drug formulary policies and procedures.
    •    Prepares and dispense medication using appropriate techniques and following departmental policies and procedures.
    •    Manages workflow well, utilizing departmental staff to provide timely, efficient pharmaceutical care.
    •    Serves as an educator for pharmacy programs and other disciplines.
    •    Maintains a commitment to the continued development of the profession of pharmacy and its practitioners.

    Education:
    •    Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy, possessing either a BS in pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy

    Experience: 
    •    None required. Institutional practice experience preferred.

    Licensure/Certification: 
    •    Must possess a license to practice pharmacy in the state of Kentucky.
