Packaging Engineer jobs in Reading, PA

As a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in pack-out processes, you will leverage your engineering expertise to design, develop, implement, and continuously enhance production processes, contributing to the manufacturing of top-tier, world-class products. This role primarily focuses on military pack-out operations, encompassing linking cartoning, crating, marking, and palletizing.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Identify and implement safety improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with Quality Engineering to establish and maintain control plans for in-process steps within the Military pack-out department.
• Work on the design and construction of gauges for product quality verification, inspection systems, and fixtures to support operations.
• Collaborate with Operations personnel to identify root causes and resolve issues affecting daily equipment efficiency (OEE).
• Analyze performance data, applying lean/six sigma principles to implement efficiency improvements and sustain gains.
• Design, develop, and modify touch tooling using Solidworks and Agile software to enhance tool life, product quality, and equipment efficiency.
• Partner with Quality Assurance to enhance process control through statistical methods and troubleshoot methodologies.
• Develop and implement processes and production line layouts supporting a lean production environment, especially focusing on Kanban replenishment methodologies for tooling consumption.
• Collaborate with R&D engineers to facilitate a seamless transition from product development to full industrialization.
• Work closely with the in-house automation team to receive, start-up, and assimilate newly built production equipment.
• Review 3D models and prints for accuracy and manufacturability.
• Co-create work instructions for production processes and ensure effective implementation through various training methods.

Who Will Be a Great Fit?  

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering/Science with 5 years of relevant work experience; alternatively, 15 years of experience in metal trades without a BS degree.
• Practical, hands-on experience with equipment, machining, and fabrication.
• Experience in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of mechanical systems.
• Proficiency in 3D design and knowledge of GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994.
• Excellent communication and efficient time management skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
• Project management experience, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and completing them on time.
• Detail-oriented with strong team collaboration skills.
• Work experience with munitions or energetic materials.
• Work experience in packing operations.
• Work experience with packaging operations associated with military products.
• Design experience using SolidWorks CAD.
• Process experience with facilities projects (e.g., waste-water treatment associated with byproducts of brass manufacture).
• Experience in a High Volume Manufacturing Environment.
