JOB SUMMARY
The NOZOMI Digital Press Operator and Team Leader is a skilled technician whose role is to ensure that customers designs are produced correctly, efficiently and at the highest level of quality. The Press Operator is a key part of the production team and works cooperatively with others to ensure that customers specifications are met. The Press Operator will troubleshoot problems within the printing process, including operation of the machinery, throughput of paper, color adjustment and alignment issues, as well as finishing processes. This position requires a thorough knowledge of all aspects of printing and its associated processes and materials in order to recognize problems and correct them.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Reads and understands the job ticket, layout sheet, artwork, and other specifications before starting each assigned job.
- Downloads pre-press information.
- Gets approval for color match and position from Supervision prior to running the job.
- Interprets print targets color bars, side guide marks, etc. indicators to control print quality.
- Maintains ink and primer levels.
- Monitors color during the run with color matched approved sheets and closed loop system.
- Checks both sides of the press sheets for marks and abrasions.
- Pulls and labels run samples with tags and marks.
- Performs all data entry into the production data system.
- Performs and documents all quality checks and procedures.
- Manages the primer unit wash up and daily cleaning process.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment.
- Works closely with sales staff/clients during press proofs.
- Maintains color files filed by customers.
- Maintains 5S standards and continuous improvement.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the quality checklist for each job.
- Performs job duties in accordance with all federal, state, local, and company safety rules.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Produces high quality direct digital print as specified in the order
- Communicates job specific information or changes to the supervisor in a timely manner to minimize production downtime
- Produces print that matches customer signed proofs and color standards
- Load paper
- Select and load appropriate profiles as required
- Help monitor levels of supplies and ensure that adequate stocks are maintained
- Complete scheduled operator preventative maintenance
- Troubleshoot and correct problems during the print job as they arise
- Communicates any issues that may affect production to the pressroom supervisor
- Correctly inputs all job-related data and all tasks are completed
- Completes an accurate and detailed Retain profile after every job
- Returns job materials to correct location on completion of job
- Keeps co-workers informed of important job information that may affect their work
- Always keeps work area safe, clean, and organized
- Manages other team members assigned to the press
- Correctly completes routine operator level maintenance to their trained level
- Performs additional duties that have been assigned by the Production Manager or Pressroom Supervisor completely and without hesitation
- Knows and follows all applicable SOPs
- Consistently adheres to all safety procedures specified

- Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- The noise level is generally loud and requires proper PPE.
- Hazardous conditions exist due to moving machinery
- Physical Requirements
- Manual dexterity required to operate controls, adjust press equipment
- Lifting or moving up to 50lbs on frequently to lift ink containers and paper
- Standing for extended periods of time
Education, Skills and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of print production experience in a digital environment or equivalent required.
- Knowledge and experience with color-matching systems
- Excellent communication skills, including the demonstration of tact, sensitivity, and professionalism.
- Experience in creating and showing proofs to clients
- Strong visual inspection skills to be able to detect quality defects and ensure color consistency and print registration.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and stay on schedule in a fast-paced environment
