Description
The Packaging Technician is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and maintaining the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment. Responsible for monitoring both production and quality of materials produced.
Core Responsibilities:
- Assist in development and review of packaging specifications for optimal performance to support new product initiatives, manufacturing, and distribution.
- Understand the basics of supplier manufacturing processes for all major packaging action items including film, printing, folding carton/corrugated, and stand-up pouches to provide background understanding for reviewing and solving packaging related quality issues.
- Assist Packaging Engineer to troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
- Work with members of New Product Project Teams from concept development through product and packaging development and full product launch.
- Research to implement and follow up on cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
- Document and log packaging changes and specifications to ensure manufacturing, planning, and purchasing are aware of pending projects and can manage inventory and new projects accordingly.
- Performing in process audits, equipment challenges, troubleshooting, and changeovers to achieve production targets.
- Recognizing when supervision and maintenance should be notified and setting goals to minimize equipment down time per established targets.
- Cleaning, maintaining, setting up, and adjusting packaging machinery to ensure consistent operation and good output in accordance with Safety, SOPs, GMPs, and Packaging standards.
- Supporting continuous improvement projects and performing all department operations consistently.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED or higher from an accredited institution (completed and verified prior to start) and ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to document legibly in English.
- Minimum 3 years of manufacturing experience in with specific experience in packaging equipment.
- Must comprehend manufacturing systems and apply goals to production targets.
- The successful candidate needs to take initiative and be proactive and act independently.
- The ability to think critically and problem solve is a must to be successful.
- Ability to use basic hand tools to assemble and disassemble equipment.
- Must be able to use a calculator and have good basic math skills including metric conversions and percentages.
- Must possess excellent teamwork & interpersonal skills, able to effectively communicate process and equipment information to co-workers and department supervisors and managers.
- Must have good mechanical skills to ensure that packaging equipment is correctly assembled and operating per established standards and procedures.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The incumbent will be required to stand; walk; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and to talk; or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color, and depth vision. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Exposure to allergens such as Soy, Wheat, Tree Nuts, Milk/Dairy, eggs etc.
