  • Duties

    • Perform duties involving a variety of visitor-oriented tasks to encourage the proper use and enjoyment of the park facilities.
    • Escorts visitors on routine tours of the facility.
    • Performs receptionist duties at the information desk in the Visitor Center.
    • Provides assistance to the public by answering general questions about the parks.
    • Assists in maintaining record of supplies needed in recreation site(s).
    • Assists higher graded Park Rangers in the development, presentation, and maintenance of interpretive programs.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • Required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in regulation ER/EP-1130-2-550, dated 15 November 1996.
    • Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
    • Required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
    • Ability to work nights and/or weekends.
    • Must receive a minimum of 24 hours of personal protection/unarmed self defense, situational evaluation and tactical communication training.
    • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and blood-borne pathogen training.
    • Must be 18 years of age by 1 MAR 2024.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     For the GS-02 Level:

    General Experience: Six months of general experience which includes involving experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or trades and crafts work is also qualifying if pertinent to the position to be filled.

    Education: High school graduation (or equivalent). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

    OR

    Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 6. Then divide your total credit hours of education by the total number of credit hours required for graduation as set by your high school. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

    For the GS-03 Level:

    General and Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work as qualifying as long as the experience provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND three months of specialized experience which includes patrolling public lands such as parks and historical/cultural sites.

    OR

    Education: One year of education above the high school level with six semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.     OR

    Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 9. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
