Pastor directs religious services and all daily operations of an organization. Provides spiritual leadership, guidance, and assistance to members. Performs religious services, leads prayer, and conducts worship. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a regional or chapter manager. The Pastor typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     Part-Time Pastor

    Good Hopewell Baptist Church is actively and prayerfully seeking a part-time Pastor who is called by God and is equipped to effectively preach and teach the Word of God. Good Hopewell Baptist Church is a small family-oriented church located in Henrico County in the middle of a residential community. The church is over 150 years old with dedicated members who love the Lord and have benevolent hearts. The church has experienced a decrease in membership during the pandemic. A successful candidate would be one who possesses the ability to motivate, attract and increase the membership as well as re-energize some of the inactive ministries and to introduce new ministries. The following responsibilities, qualifications and education experience is not an exhaustive list, but the general requirements that are desired in a part-time pastor.

    Responsibilities:

    Prepare and deliver weekly sermons using the Holy Bible as the basis of all sermons.

    Preaching during special services as required, currently includes Cooperative Outreach Ministry programs (COM)-(Ash Wednesday, Christmas and Thanksgiving).

    Restore the Wednesday night bible study in a manner appropriate for the church (in-person, through electronic means or other technological means).

    Live in accordance to 2 Timothy 4:1-2 and Titus 1:7.

    Keep the Deacons and Trustees informed of church issues.

    Conduct premarital, individual and family counseling.

    Perform funerals and weddings of church members.

    Provide spiritual guidance and support to members of the congregation, addressing their spiritual needs and concerns.

    Provide compassionate care and support to individuals and families during times of illness, grief, and other life challenges. Visit hospitals, homes, and other locations to offer pastoral care as needed.

    Engage in outreach efforts to the local community, seeking opportunities to serve and support those in need. Collaborate with other community organizations to address social issues and promote positive change.

    Moderate Church Business Meetings as required by the Church’s Constitution.

    Administer Rituals such as Baptism, Baby Christenings and Communion services.

    Serve Communion at the request of members who are homebound.

    Oversee the ministries of the church.

    Work with the Assistant Ministers in carrying out the work of the ministry.

    Provide information for the weekly bulletins in a timely manner.

    Participate with the Tuckahoe Association, Baptist General Convention, and other Minister Conferences as deemed appropriate by the Pastor and church body

    Serve as the Minister Representative on the Cooperative Outreach Ministry (COM) Advisory Board.

    Qualifications:

    3-5 years of experience as a Pastor preferred, but not required. (serving as an Associate Pastor/Minister, and or a Youth Pastor/Minister would count as experience)

    Must be ordained

    Good written and verbal communication skills

    Exceptional problem solving and conflict resolution skills

    Counseling experience

    Strong speaking and presentation skills

    Good listener

    Compassionate

    Experienced leader in growing a fellowship, retention and attraction of new members

    Care for the wellbeing of parishioners

    Ability to work well with young children and teenagers

    Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives

    Strong leadership and organizational abilities.

    Adherence to ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality in pastoral relationships.

    Job Location:

    In-person services at the Church at 3801 Florida Avenue, Richmond, VA 23222. Virtual services are an option under certain circumstances.

    Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate worship services, pastoral care visits, and community events.

    May involve occasional travel for conferences, retreats, or other professional development opportunities.

    Education:

    An Advanced Degree in Theological Studies preferred; however, an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

    Benefits:

    The salary may be negotiated, but the desired hiring range is $475-$500 per week depending on experience. An increase in salary may be considered after a year of service.

    Two-weeks of paid vacation.

    Honorariums and compensation for special services.

    Additional Details:

    Candidates selected as a finalist will be interviewed by a panel (may be in-person or virtual). Finalists will also be requested to preach at the church for two Sundays. The committee will be flexible with the preaching schedule.

    The church provides 1099 statements in January of each year.

    Verification of credentials may be requested.
