Patent Attorney – Intellectual Property Law Firm – Patents/Trademarks/Copyrights/Trade Secrets
Position Overview:
Fargo Patent & Business Law, PLLC is an intellectual property focused law firm. The firm works with innovative companies to help develop great ideas. We provide both intellectual property and business law services. Intellectual property services include patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
The position is for a person licensed as a patent attorney. The position will comprise primarily of patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, and trade secret work. Patent work will primarily be related to mechanical and industrial technologies but may expand into other subject matters. Sales and marketing efforts are managed by the firm to provide a workflow for the person hired. The hired person does not need to solicit new clients or businesses. Primary clients of the firm include agriculture, oil and gas, manufacturing, medical devices, and unmanned aviation. Responsibilities:
- Communicate details of a matter with clients
- Join firm salespeople in client meetings to understand inventions and strategies
- Prosecute patents
- Prosecute trademarks
- Prosecute Copyrights
- Provide trade secret research and guidance
- Ascertain and locate needed information as required
- Maintain firm procedures
- File documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and other federal agencies
- Assist in non-IP related matters includings corporate work, contracts, and limited disputes
- Maintain client scheduling
- Maintain deadlines and important schedules
- Proofreadad documentation
- Attend events at tradeshows, networking, and other such activities
- Maintain firm core values while interacting with clients and potential clients
- Attend meetings with other attorney(s) to document and take notes
- Organize and document attorney work
- Use and continually develop leadership skills
- Attend training as required to maintain industry proficiency
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Participate in coordinating internal resources and third parties/vendors for the seamless execution of projects
Requirements:
- Licensed Patent Practitioner with the USPTO
- License with the North Dakota Bar Preferred
- Licenses in other states beneficial
- 0 – 3 years experience as an attorney
- Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong working knowledge of a CRM
- Ability to lift 40 pounds or more
- Signed confidentiality agreements

Hours:
- Base of 40 hours per pay week. A part-time reduction is an option.
- In-office 9 – 4 M – Th, 9 – 12 F
- There will be an opportunity to increase hours if desired.
- Compensation Total Estimated Range: $94,000 - $217,000 depending on experience and actual work performed. Calculation based on assumption that minimum billable hours are met on a monthly basis.

This position reports directly to an attorney
