Pathology Assistant under the supervision of a pathologist assists with preparing and dissecting surgical specimens. Prepares and selects tissue samples for analysis. Being a Pathology Assistant may record findings or sterilize equipment. Requires a bachelor's/master's degree from an accredited program. Additionally, Pathology Assistant may require certification as a pathologist assistant. Typically reports to a pathologist. To be a Pathology Assistant typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Job purpose:
This position is responsible for helping in all areas of the lab including but not limited to receiving specimens from the couriers and documenting number of specimens and time received, distributing specimens to appropriate areas in the lab, opening specimen bags and preparing jars on tray for accessioning, labeling specimen jars/requisitions with labels, and scanning necessary paperwork.
