May review claims or records to ensure accurate completion or coding in an effort to reduce reimbursement denials. Additionally, Patient Registrar, Sr. requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Patient Registrar, Sr. typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. May be entry level if some experience in the skill. Summary: The Registrar is responsible for the efficient and orderly registration of patients, ensures that accurate patient information is collected and that patients are made aware of hospital policies and procedures. Responsible for patient demographics utilized in the preparation of records and reports used in making operating decisions. Works with and has access to confidential patient information. Position requires making frequent decisions or actions following general procedures often without clearly defined precedents. Position requires a high degree of mental alertness and close visual attention to details. Position requires diplomacy and a professional image and manner in dealing with patients, families, visitors, medical staff and personnel; registrar is responsible for a positive first impression of as the initial point of service contact for customers. Job responsibility includes registration in any area under the direction of the Director. Counsels with patients regarding financial obligation to set up payment arrangements. Assist with training new employees.
Education: Minimum of High School diploma desired, healthcare courses or on the job training specific to Hospital or Medical Office skills is desirable.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year experience in a health care setting preferred. Demonstrated proficient computer, written and verbal communication, telephone, cash handling and customer service skills.
