Patient Safety Manager manages a staff responsible for developing and implementing patient safety programs. Supervises the investigation of errors and then plans for resolution of all safety related incidents, including those involving employees, visitors, patients, and situations posing a threat to the hospital's buildings and equipment. Being a Patient Safety Manager maintains records of patient-related errors and evaluates this information in order to identify the cause of the error. Collects, reviews, and analyzes information from the facility's safety programs to identify corrective action and programs as necessary. Additionally, Patient Safety Manager recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Designs and presents training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Patient Safety Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE  

    The Safety Manager leads and manages employee safety activities and collaborates with management and other functions within the company. This position partners with management to build capability and provide safety subject matter expertise for agriculture, manufacturing, and distribution facilities. 

     

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Implement programs to reduce workplace injuries and collisions and ensure continued compliance with regulatory and internal policies.
    • Implement, evaluate and/or certify effectiveness of company safety programs and systems through inspections and audits.
    • Provide subject matter expert (SME) guidance and leadership to assist company compliance with safety related rules and regulations at local, state, national and industry levels.
    • Identify improvement opportunities, capture, deploy and share best practices.
    • Participate in Worker’s Compensation Claims reviews as needed.
    • Gather and analyze safety data, develop goals and targets, manage scorecards, databases, and dashboards for safety related programs and metrics.
    • Prepare for emergency situations, including assistance of injured workers, by establishing emergency response protocols.
    • Develop and deploy safety awareness and compliance training programs to all levels of employees as needed.
    • Develop and maintain incident reporting and investigation procedures, emergency response plans, and crisis management protocols.
    • Ensure the development of training programs and related training records and reports.
    • Establish and maintain vendor relationships.
    • Other projects or duties as assigned.

     

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR   

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • 5-7 years of experience in a related field
    • Bachelor’s degree with preferred disciplines in occupational safety and health, environmental safety & management, and safety environmental science.
    • Proven experience in safety leadership within manufacturing environment.
    • Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate employees at all levels.
    • Strong knowledge of safety best practices and state and federal laws. 
    • Ability to work any and all shifts and provide ‘on-call’ coverage outside work hours and some weekends and holidays.
    • Valid California Driver License

     

    Required Skills And Abilities: 

    • Investigative, analysis and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements (federal, state and provincial) and apply them to the workplace.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
    • Knowledge of local, state or federal environmental, health and safety regulations including how to access and evaluate resources, i.e., regulatory agencies, consulting firms, web-based information, etc.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Strong organizational, interviewing and listening skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service-oriented skills
    • Ability to make complete an accurate analysis, reports, and recommendations. 
    • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences, and implement recommendations in support of targeted outcomes. 
    • Designed, implemented and or managed OSH programs 
    • Facilitated regulatory visits, managed emergency response incidents, implemented corrective actions, 
    • Conducted or lead training in applicable OSH areas  

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant certifications 
    • Agriculture Experience
    • Bi-lingual Spanish and English are preferred.
