Financial Operations - Payment Processor

  • If you are analytical with an attention to detail, this job is for you. The Utah State Tax Commission's Processing Division is looking for a motivated individual who can work both independently and with teams to fill the Payment Processor Technician position. This person will play an integral role in the Division's mission to provide quality service to both taxpayers and our colleagues. You must be current on your state and federal tax filings and pass a FBI background check. 

    Job Duties
    As a Payment Processor Technician, you will:
    • Use payment processing software to scan and process a variety of payment documents
    • Review documents for completeness and accuracy
    • Make corrections using 10-key skills to balance payments and correct scan lines
    • Prepare electronic and paper bank deposits
    • Record and publish daily deposits
    • Prepare and scan a variety of returns and motor vehicle documents
    • Review images for quality and identify forms for document processing
    • Record work completed
    The Ideal Candidate
    The ideal candidate will possess:
    • 10-key skills at a minimum of 9,000 keystrokes per hour
    • Experience in payment processing and basic accounting/bookkeeping knowledge
    • Attention to detail
    • Experience working with desktop scanning
    • Teamwork temperament 
    Salary
    Non-state employees are hired for this position at $15.13 an hour. We are unable to negotiate hourly wage amounts. DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers for current state employees.

    • Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
      • Employees hired on or after than 7/1/2011 and have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
      • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in Tier I Public Employees System.
      • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
      • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  
      • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in Tier I Public Employees System.
    • Paid Time Off:
      • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
      • Annual leave increases with years of service. 
      • There are also 12 paid holidays.

    • Prepare and process payment documents; review documents and reconcile discrepancies
    • Prepare, process and scan documents; review for quality and completeness
    • Operate and maintain computerized equipment and machinery
    • Operate a variety of scanning equipment and software for payment processing and document scanning
    • Enter data into a computer system for payment processing setup and document scanning
    • Data entry to direct, correct and balance payments to payment options
    • Complete daily production reports and deposits
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    Working Conditions
    • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
    Physical Requirements
    • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
    Other Requirements
    • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • 10-key skills at a minimum of 9,000 key strokes per hour.
    • Personal tax filings and vehicle registrations must be current and complete. 
    • You will be required to pass an FBI-level background check prior to your first day of employment.
    • Must be physically able to lift up to 30 pounds.
