Payroll Director directs all aspects of payroll processing operations. Establishes and oversees payroll processes and procedures for routine processing, tax reporting and internal financial requirements. Being a Payroll Director designs short-term and long-term strategies to achieve continuous improvement and efficiencies in payroll processing and delivery operations. Keeps stakeholders informed about the status of payroll laws and regulations and develops implementation plans for required changes to operations. Additionally, Payroll Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Payroll Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. The Payroll Manager reports to the Associate Director of Payroll and oversees daily managerial and administrative support for the Payroll department. The role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payroll in accordance with relevant regulations, contracts, and policies.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
Experience: One (1) year of acceptable accounting / payroll experience
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
· Communicate with employees and outside agencies concerning payroll and deduction issues
· Oversee the College’s automated Time and Attendance system
· Coordinate faculty payroll submissions with the instructional division
· Manage periodic payroll reporting, account reconciliation, and year-end closeout procedures, ensuring compliance and accurate record-keeping
· Prepare and process federal, state, and insurance-related reports, including tax deposits, direct deposit files, and remittances to insurance, pension, and retirement plans
· Assist in developing the College budget and preparing ICCB Reports related to salaries and benefits
· Develop and generate reports, as needed by outside departments
· Respond to various employment-related surveys
· Perform salary and benefit projections / analysis
· Calculate and process insurance reimbursement to college retirees
· Provide financial analysis in various areas, as needed
· Aid in the preparation of Worker’s Compensation audit documentation with the Associate Director of Payroll
· Serve on College committees as assigned
Non-Essential Functions of the Position
· Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or designated location.
