Position Summary:  Provides prescribed medications according to professional standards and practices.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of pharmacy and completion of internship approved by National Board of Pharmacy.  Licensed as a pharmacist in this state.

Duties:

• Evaluates and updates patient profiles for drug incompatibilities and allergies
• Consults with physicians on questionable or illegible orders
• Instructs patients on effects of medication, potential side effects and incompatibility
• Ensures proper filling and labeling of medications
• Rotates stock and checks for outdates in pharmacy
• Monitors and supervises Pharmacy Technicians
• Provides drug information to staff members using internal and external databases
• Rotates stock and checks for outdates in patient care areas
• Restocks unit drugs and emergency carts when necessary
• In-services other healthcare professionals on drug therapy topics
• Provides professional assistance to medical staff concerning drug information
• Ensures all professional and legal requirements concerning controlled substances are met
• Develops and maintains departmental quality control and quality improvement activities
• Maintains professional affiliations
• Attends required meetings and committee participation as required
• Maintains patient confidentiality at all times

• Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
