Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense medical prescriptions. Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May prepare labels and routine prepacked orders. Additionally, Pharmacy Technician may be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). The Pharmacy Technician possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Responsibilities:
- Prepare and dispense medications accurately and efficiently
- Perform medication inventory management and restocking
- Assist in the compounding of sterile IV infusion medications
- Utilize aseptic technique when handling medications
- Provide exceptional patient service by addressing inquiries and concerns
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate medication therapy
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Follow all pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulations
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program
- Current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacy calculations
- Experience in a hospital or critical care setting is preferred
- Proficient in medication administration techniques, including inhalation therapy
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
