Job Summary: To provide quality grounds presentation throughout The Center at Donaldson’s properties within the scope of the ERC policies and procedures under the direction of the Executive Director, Ecological Services.
§ Provide ground maintenance work, cutting grass area, shrubbery, trees and floral displays of grounds and related projects as assigned
§ Work to create and maintain a safe and visually pleasing physical environment at The Center at Donaldson.
§ Uses sound judgment to avoid making mistakes that could cause injury or death or result in great damage to the physical plant, to the environment, or to the community.
§ Providing quality service within areas of responsibility in a friendly and hospitable manner.
§ Diagnose and repair grounds equipment as needed.
§ Collaborate and communicate information related to proper maintenance of all grounds equipment with grounds co-workers and manager.
§ Assists in maintaining a respectful and well manicured cemetery and prepares burial sites in Mt. Carmel Cemetery as assigned.
§ Shares knowledge to ensure the proper work environment on issues related to the maintenance of all exterior grounds and Center at Donaldson property.
§ Collaborates with other co-workers to promote a team environment.
§ Responsible for seeing that all landscaping tools and equipment are kept in good working condition. Ensure proper maintenance and storage of all tools and equipment used for landscaping purposes.
§ Help inventory, plan for, and order all materials needed to maintain all gardens, landscapes and grounds to include but not limited to grass seed, plantings, fertilizer, weed control, plant food, etc.
§ Helps maintain a semi-permanent Labyrinth in collaboration with Lindenwood.
§ Responsible for removal of snow and ice from all walkways, steps, driveways and parking lots to maintain them in a safe condition.
§ Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the area surrounding Lake Gilbraith and the access road to Flat Lake.
§ May perform interior and exterior set-ups, as well as care for and repair exterior set-up items, such as picnic tables, lawn chairs etc. as assigned by the Executive Director, Ecological Services.
§ Assist with and make recommendations to the Facility and Grounds Services Manager in preparing the annual budget and long range planning for the care and maintenance of the grounds.
§ Provide 24-hour “on-call” services as assigned.
§ While serving “on-call” will be responsible for maintaining full charge of the batteries for both the walkie-talkie and the cell phone
§ Assures that the established quality expectations are achieved.
§ Responsible for ensuring that all landscape and garden areas throughout The Center at Donaldson are well maintained throughout the year to include but not limited to mowing, trimming, pruning, seeding, fertilizing and water sprinkling.
§ Demonstrates independent judgment and decision making in determining what action is required to execute daily required tasks.
§ Responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of all the exterior building attachments, i.e. gutters, porches, steps, sidewalks, sandblasting and power washing of buildings to keep them well maintained.
SPECIFICATIONS
Prior Education and Training:
§ High school education or equivalent required.
§ Three to five years working directly in an exterior / grounds care capacity
Prior Work Experience / Skills Required:
§ Experience that includes general landscaping and grounds maintenance.
§ Minimum 3 years related work experience preferred.
§ Able to climb.
§ Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and/or push wheeled cart of 50 to 80 pounds for a short distance.
§ Ability to push wheeled equipment or drive large equipment with possible excessive weight.
§ Ability to use sound judgment at all times during the performance of duties in such a manner as to avoid damage to equipment, property, or cause bodily harm to self or others.
§ Common sense and familiarity with mechanical equipment such as pumps and motors.
§ Knowledge of chemical procedures as related to grounds and landscaping.
§ Know how to operate and maintain equipment used in grounds maintenance.
§ Ability to climb stairs and ladders and ability to get on and off; mowers, lawn equipment, stairs, ladders and scaffolding.
§ Ability to stoop, bend, push, pull and dig.
On the Job Training / Orientation required:
§ Completion of new Co-Worker orientation.
§ 1 – 3 months familiarity with equipment and procedures.
Environmental Conditions:
§ Works in areas with extreme temperatures, as well as air-conditioned areas.
§ Work requires mental attention to safety and proper functioning and maintenance of all equipment with physical exertion.
§ Work schedule may occasionally include irregular hours, weekends and holidays.
§ May be exposed to injuries from falls, scrapes, stings and abrasions.
§ Occasional strenuous work is required that includes lifting up to 50 pounds and the ability to stoop, bend, push, pull and dig.
§ Generally conditions are good but in certain functions the possibility of exposure to chemical agents.
§ May be required to work weekends and early and late hours as assigned.
