Physician - Hospitalist examines, diagnoses, and treats hospitalized patients. Manages patients through the continuum of hospital care, seeing patients in the ER and following them into the critical care unit and organizing post-acute care. Being a Physician - Hospitalist orders treatments, tests, and consults with specialty physicians and primary care physician where appropriate. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Additionally, Physician - Hospitalist requires a valid state license to practice. May report to a medical director. Physician - Hospitalist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Details:
- Manage overall treatment plan for unassigned hospital patients and coordinate provision of care by other medical/surgical specialists as needed through the referral of patients to medical specialists, social services or other professionals as appropriate
- Serve as liaison with family and other physicians/programs
- Ensure patients primary care physician is kept informed of medical condition/treatment throughout hospital stay
