Plant Manager directs a plant or production facility's overall operations. Sets and implements policies and procedures that guide plant operations' productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. Being a Plant Manager utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity and set performance targets to achieve production goals. Develops and deploys manufacturing practices focused on quality and continuous improvement. Additionally, Plant Manager develops and implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Collaborates with multi-functional plant teams, including finance, engineering, materials, quality assurance, and human resources. Leads or participates in labor relations negotiations and engages with union leadership involving plant operations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Plant Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Plant Manager typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Immediate Supervisor Director of Operations

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Summary: The Plant Manager will be responsible for directing and managing all plant operations with overall responsibility for production, distribution, warehouse, maintenance and quality. Ensures increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction while improving the efficiency of manpower, materials and machines.

    Essential Duties And Responsibilities

    • Coordinate plant activities through planning with department supervisors/managers to ensure that total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
    • Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries.
    • Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
    • Ensure sanitation, safety, GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) and quality policies and procedures are followed.
    • Control and minimize labor overtime, freight and repair expenses.
    • Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary.
    • Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.
    • Provides direction, development and leadership to production supervisors.
    • Provides leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.
    • Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relationships.
    • Ensures compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety and complete and on-time delivery.
    • Determines operations headcount needs and ensures compliance with company policy.
    • Ensures compliance with company needs for capital investments and improvement projects.
    • Manages compliance with state and federal regulations.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • Prefer bachelor’s degree in related field
    • 5 years plant/general management experience (prefer food or dairy manufacturing environment)
    • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements
    • Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results
    • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
    • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
    • Must be able to work with company team members at all levels within the organization
    • Have fundamental skills with Microsoft Office applications
    • Must be able to verbally communicate, understand, and write in the English language.
    • Must be willing to work flexible hours as required

    Physical Requirements

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms on a repetitive basis. The employee must be able to push, pull, and move up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to physically lift up to 50 pounds. All jobs require visual acuity to review written documentations; ability to hear and understand speech. At times there can be loud noise which may cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. There is exposure to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to heat/cold temperature changes.
