Plant Superintendent supervises and coordinates workers' activities in all phases of plant operations. Develops and manages production and maintenance schedules to meet internal volume, cost, and quality goals. Being a Plant Superintendent utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity, identify issues, and achieve production goals. Troubleshoots operational, materials, equipment, and staffing problems and coordinates solutions. Additionally, Plant Superintendent implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. SUMMARY: The Plant Operations Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Operations Manager in planning, leading, guiding, directing, and managing daily operations consistent with policies and procedures of Seaboard Triumph Foods. The Plant Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring production requirements are met and the facility operates in a safe, efficient, and complaint manner. Accountable for producing high quality products, the safety of employees, the profitability of the facility, budget planning and attainment, management and control, human capital utilization and treatment, and the training and development of operations leadership. This role is responsible for strategic planning as well as responding to unplanned events, working independently, and making technical decisions and recommendations to ensure the reliable and efficient facility operations. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in a related field (agriculture, animal science or business) plus five to eight years of plant management experience or the combination of education and experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position. Expertise across all operational functions preferred (i.e., harvest, cut, converting, packaging, shipping, stockyard, maintenance)
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must be able to build and maintain trusting relationships. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in both written and oral formats. Must be able to give and receive constructive feedback. Must be an effective listener who understands the right time and manner to communicate with employees at all levels. Transparency is necessary and making oneself available to others is key.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with USDA, production, and management personnel. Must understand and effectively know how to use an interpreter when communicating with non-English speaking individuals. Bilingual skills preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and think critically. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form, analytical reasoning, and adaptability. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use all other computer programs that are or will be made available. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, TEAMS, PowerPoint, ADP, Internet, sales software, and UNIX applications (SAP); sufficient knowledge of different pork products; manufacturing knowledge and understanding of yields, plant efficiencies, and operations procedures; OSHA Standards and USDA/HACCP regulations. Ability to work in a diverse workforce. Must possess superior people skills with a history of developing talent for progression within the organization. Must hold a valid driver's license due to occasional business travel.
