Police Sergeant is responsible for supervising patrol officers and agents as assigned and maintaining the chain of command within the operations of the department. Responsible for developing training programs for department personnel, directing special units, preparing special reports or projects as assigned, receiving and reviewing reports from officers, and assigning personnel in accordance to specific needs. Being a Police Sergeant requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 5-7 years of law enforcement experience. Typically reports to a chief of police, captain, or lieutenant. The Police Sergeant manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Police Sergeant typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. - Educational Incentive Pay: up to $600.00 per year, per certificate (up to 6 certificates for a total possible $3,600.00).
- Degree Pay: $600.00, $1,200.00, $1,800.00 Annually for Associates, Bachelor's & Master's Respectively.

- Clothing Allowance-$480.00 for first full year and $1,980.00 per year thereafter.

Certified Officers: $51,000 - $63,000 depending on experience, certifications, education, and qualifications.
Applicants for entry level Police Officer positions must meet the following criteria established by the State of Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training, the State of Arkansas Civil Service Statute, and the Benton Civil Service Commission.
- An applicant must be at least twenty and a half (20 1/2) years of age.
- An applicant must have graduated from a standard high school or must have a high school equivalency; i.e., General Education Diploma (GED).
- An applicant must have no felony convictions.
- A complete background investigation will be conducted on every applicant.
- An applicant will be required to pass a basic physical agility test, drug test, Computer Voice Stress Analyzer, medical and psychological examination.
