Police Sergeant is responsible for supervising patrol officers and agents as assigned and maintaining the chain of command within the operations of the department. Responsible for developing training programs for department personnel, directing special units, preparing special reports or projects as assigned, receiving and reviewing reports from officers, and assigning personnel in accordance to specific needs. Being a Police Sergeant requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 5-7 years of law enforcement experience. Typically reports to a chief of police, captain, or lieutenant. The Police Sergeant manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Police Sergeant typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Police Cadet or Police Officer

  • This is police work involving the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. The Department is accepting applications for Police Officer (Florida Certified Law Enforcement Officers) and Police Cadet (Full Academy Sponsorship Program -or- Equivalency of Training Academy Sponsorship for out-of-state Certified Law Enforcement Officer). Certified Police Officer candidates may be eligible for a new hire incentive payment and a higher pay grade for prior law enforcement experience.     TO QUALIFY

    Qualified applicants must possess and maintain a State of Florida Class "E" Driver License; are at least 19 years of age; must meet the education requirement of 30 semester hours (for full academy sponsorship), 60 semester hours (for Out-of-State and Florida Certified law enforcement officers) or the requirements for exemption of college hours based on three (3) years of military or two (2) years of sworn law enforcement experience; and must meet all criteria of the City's current "Selection Standards for Police Officer Positions".     Candidates that meet all the selection standards may be invited to participate in the pre-employment screening process to determine the most qualified applicants. The process includes a Physical Abilities Test, Background Investigation, Polygraph, Departmental Interview, Psychological Evaluation and post-offer employment Medical Exam and Drug Test.
