Police Sergeant is responsible for supervising patrol officers and agents as assigned and maintaining the chain of command within the operations of the department. Responsible for developing training programs for department personnel, directing special units, preparing special reports or projects as assigned, receiving and reviewing reports from officers, and assigning personnel in accordance to specific needs. Being a Police Sergeant requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 5-7 years of law enforcement experience. Typically reports to a chief of police, captain, or lieutenant. The Police Sergeant manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Police Sergeant typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Police Officer under direct supervision of a Supervisor, patrol designated area ensuring compliance with all applicable State Laws and Local Ordinances, answers calls when a crime is suspected or an emergency exists. - Enforce laws and ordinances to maintain public order and safety
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity
- Respond to emergency calls, accidents, and incidents
- Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and interview witnesses
- Arrest and process individuals suspected of criminal activity
- Write detailed reports documenting incidents and actions taken
- Testify in court as a witness or provide evidence as required
```Experience```
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Certification in first aid and CPR
- Prior experience in law enforcement or related field is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques and procedures
- Ability to handle conflict situations and deescalate tense situations
- Familiarity with loss prevention strategies and techniques
Skills:
- Animal care: Ability to handle animals safely and effectively in various situations
- Driving: Proficient driving skills with the ability to operate emergency vehicles safely
- First aid and CPR: Knowledge of basic first aid techniques and cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures
- Militarise: Familiarity with military-style discipline, structure, and protocols
- Conflict management: Ability to resolve conflicts peacefully and effectively
- Loss prevention: Understanding of strategies to prevent theft, vandalism, and other losses
- Law enforcement: Knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures related to law enforcement activities
- Criminal investigation: Ability to conduct thorough investigations into criminal activities
