Production Engineering Manager manages the planning and designing of methods to improve or enhance existing programs. Oversees the analysis and review of budgets, schedules, production requirements and headcount to determine the most cost effective and efficient methods of obtaining necessary resources. Being a Production Engineering Manager develops and recommends revisions or enhancements to schedules, human and monetary resource allocations, and production requirements. Ensures projects are completed on time. Additionally, Production Engineering Manager acts as advisor to production engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Production Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     About the Role

    Packsize is looking for a Production Engineering Manager to lead our manufacturing start-up in Louisville, Kentucky. The Production Engineering Manager will oversee the production engineering team, drive process improvements, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. The Production Engineering Manager will collaborate with other engineers (locally and globally), product managers, product quality, and suppliers in building reliable, on-demand packaging systems. We want you to come in and ask well thought out questions, carry out solid fundamental engineering, do independent research and collaborate effectively with your peers.     What You'll Do

    • Assist in the build-out of North American Manufacturing capabilities for Packsize

    • Lead and mentor the production engineering team, providing guidance, support, and technical expertise to ensure the team's success

    • Continuously optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality

    • Collaborate with product development teams to facilitate the smooth transition of new products from design to production, ensuring manufacturability and scalability

    • Provide input on design for manufacturability (DFM) principles to optimize production processes and minimize manufacturing costs

    • Provide input during design reviews and ECO/ECN reviews

    • Investigate and introduce newer technologies that provide the highest levels of accuracy, efficiency, and safety

    • Develop layouts, test fixtures, tooling, subassembly stations, and work-flows for the production lines

    • Utilize tools such as Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, and value stream mapping to analyze production processes and identify areas for improvement in productivity, cost-effectiveness, and quality

    • Develop and implement strategies to optimize production workflows and eliminate waste

    • Interface with the Product Quality team to investigate issues and obtain feedback on machine performance

    • Develop testing protocols and inspection procedures to monitor and improve product quality

    • Implement and maintain rigorous quality control measures to uphold product quality standards

    • Develop and maintain production work instructions, test plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

    • Develop and provide training and support to production personnel on new processes, equipment, and quality standards

    • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and promote a culture of safety awareness throughout the production engineering team

    • Work closely with supply chain and procurement teams to coordinate material procurement and inventory management, ensuring uninterrupted production

    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, implementing Lean manufacturing principles and fostering innovation to enhance productivity and efficiency

    • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, sales, and customer support, to address production-related issues and drive collective success

    • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor production performance and identify areas for improvement

    • Assist in management of possible contract manufacturers and/or sub-tier suppliers

    • Optimize resource allocation and expenditures to achieve operational goals

    What You’ll Bring

    • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field

    • Minimum 5 years experience in designing production solutions, preferably in a relevant industry such as packaging or automation

    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams

    • Lean Six-Sigma Black Belt

    • Knowledgeable and experienced in automation technology, industrial automation design and system architecture

    • Working knowledge of PLC’s or embedded systems, machine automation and programming

    • Experienced user in SolidWorks, 3DExperience, or other CAD/PDM tools

    • Highly competent using PLM and managing engineering change (ECO)

    • Well versed in reading and following electrical and pneumatics schematics

    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a track record of implementing innovative solutions to complex challenges

    • Proficiency in project management and process optimization tools and methodologies

    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization

    • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in production environments

    • Demonstrates knowledge of internal product and technology development processes

    • Experience with ERP systems and production planning tools is a plus

    • Be team-driven and bring an optimistic and positive attitude

    Working Environment and Physical Demands

    The following are representative of the typical working environment and physical demands

    of this position. To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, you will be required to:

    • Up to 20% travel as needed

    • Ability to do the physical work necessary to fabricate prototypes (using machine shop tools, turning wrenches etc…)

    What We Offer

    The salary range for this role is $123,000- 137,000 however, Packsize considers several factors when determining compensation when extending a job offer, including but not limited to, the role being offered, the associated responsibilities, the candidate's prior work experience, education/training, and any special skills.
